Ka’u Classics
|
Ka‘u Classic Medium RoastFor us, the Classic Medium Roast is the quintessential Ka‘u coffee: bright, yet balanced and elegant, with notes of lime and brown-sugar sweetness. We’re not the only ones who like it. This coffee scored 92 points in Coffee Review, tying for the top score in a cupping of Hawaiian and Caribbean coffees in March 2010. |

Ka‘u Classic Dark RoastOf our three types of Classic coffees, this one is the smoothest. The dark roast softens this coffee’s brightness and brings out more hints of chocolate. |

Ka‘u Classic PeaberryDistinguished by their rounded shape, peaberries account for only 5% of our harvest. They are the rarest of our classic Ka‘u coffees. Consider these beans a riff on the quintessential Ka‘u coffee. Like our Classic Medium and Classic Dark roasts, these peaberries are of the Typica variety, grown in the rich soil and cool climate of the Mauna Loa volcano’s southern slope. |

Natural Yellow CaturraIt’s not nice to play favorites among children, but we can’t help the way we feel about our Natural Yellow Caturra. After all, it took one-and-a-half maddening years to turn this variety into exceptional coffee. So how good is it? In Coffee Review’s Nov. 2010 ranking of natural coffees, our babies took the top score of 95 points. |

Natural Red CaturraOur Natural Red Caturra shows off how much variety there is in, well, coffee varieties. Take the differences between our Natural Red Caturra and Natural Yellow Caturra. Botanically speaking, they’re closely related, but have different flavor profiles. |

Maui Mokka PeaberryAfter years of crafting award-winning Ka‘u beans, we wanted to celebrate exceptional coffees from other Hawaiian regions. Maui Mokka Peaberry fits us perfectly for several reasons. First, the beans are just so cute. Mokka has the smallest beans of any Coffea arabica cultivar; its peaberries are about the size of lentils. (In the photo, compare the Mokka peaberries on the right with the Typica beans on the left.) |

Kona Honey MaragogypeAfter years of crafting award-winning Ka‘u beans, we wanted to celebrate exceptional coffees from other Hawaiian regions. Like the Maui Mokka Peaberry, this Kona Honey Maragogype fits us perfectly for several reasons. First, the beans are visually striking. Maragogype (also known as Maragogipe) has the largest beans of any Coffea arabica cultivar; a bean can stretch across the diameter of a penny. |

Got Coffee MugOur black mugs feature two designs. One is the Rusty’s Hawaiian logo. The other sports the branch of a coffee tree with the oh-so-logical question: “Got Coffee?” Of course, these mugs are a fine choice to hold juice, milk and water. But it should be apparent that our favorite beverage in them, by far, is our own coffee. |
