For us, the Classic Medium Roast is the quintessential Ka‘u coffee: bright, yet balanced and elegant, with notes of lime and brown-sugar sweetness. We’re not the only ones who like it. This coffee scored 92 points in Coffee Review, tying for the top score in a cupping of Hawaiian and Caribbean coffees in March 2010.

Distinguished by their rounded shape, peaberries account for only 5% of our harvest. They are the rarest of our classic Ka‘u coffees.

Consider these beans a riff on the quintessential Ka‘u coffee. Like our Classic Medium and Classic Dark roasts, these peaberries are of the Typica variety, grown in the rich soil and cool climate of the Mauna Loa volcano’s southern slope.

It was time for Pete Licata to do something outlandish. After five years of entering regional and national barista competitions, he’d never taken home the top prize.

Take the differences between our Natural Red Caturra and Natural Yellow Caturra. Botanically speaking, they’re closely related, but have different flavor profiles.

After years of crafting award-winning Ka‘u beans, we wanted to celebrate exceptional coffees from other Hawaiian regions. Like the Maui Mokka Peaberry, this Kona Honey Maragogype fits us perfectly for several reasons.

First, the beans are visually striking. Maragogype (also known as Maragogipe) has the largest beans of any Coffea arabica cultivar; a bean can stretch across the diameter of a penny.

Our black mugs feature two designs. One is the Rusty’s Hawaiian logo. The other sports the branch of a coffee tree with the oh-so-logical question: “Got Coffee?”

Of course, these mugs are a fine choice to hold juice, milk and water. But it should be apparent that our favorite beverage in them, by far, is our own coffee.
